FAQs
Who is eligible to join APBA?
1
What are the beach rules? Read them here.
Please note: There is absolutely no distance swimming allowed!
Memberships are available for residents of Canaan and New Lebanon, NY only. This is strictly enforced, as membership eligibility is defined in our bylaws, as well as our lease with Berkshire Farm. Not to mention, the beach is not large enough to allow for exceptions.
Please note, eligibility is based on township residency, not school district. If the property you reside is on the property tax roll of Canaan or New Lebanon, you are eligible. (To check which municipality your home is in, you may use the Columbia County site here. You simply select "Click Here for Public Access" and follow the instructions. You do no need to create an account.)
Why do we have beach rules? Simple. To keep you safe. Repeated violation of rules could mean revocation of membership.
Do I need a physical pass?
2
For family memberships: There are no physical passes. Just check-in at the guard table when you get to the beach to give them your name and the number of people in your party, so they can check your membership status with our app.
For rentals and inns: Please send your guests with the physical pass you were supplied upon registering. All rental/inn guests must have a pass when they visit the beach.
How do I apply to be a lifeguard?
3
To be a lifeguard at APBA, you need Red Cross lifeguard certification and yearly renewed CPR certification.
You may email adamspointbeach@gmail.com to request an interview.
What is the Queechy Lake Club … is it part of Adams Point Beach?
4
The Queechy Lake Club is a separate organization from Adams Point Beach, but we work closely together as a community effort to ensure Queechy Lake remains one of the cleanest lakes in the New York State.
The QLC mission is to preserve and enhance the natural beauty of the lake.
Learn how you can help their efforts to keep our beloved lake clean by visiting their site. Water testing costs are rising, and they need more funds to ensure they can continue consistent testing. Please donate!

SPECIFIC WAYS TO HELP …
At the end of the season we have a clean-up day when we bring in the ropes and scrub the buoys, bring in the dock, pick up any stray garbage, clean out the lifeguard shed, and button the beach up for the winter.
More hands make for light work! Just to be candid, by the end of the season, our Board could really use some assistance!

Be proactive!
3
If you see something that needs to be done … volunteer to do it! We would be thrilled to have the extra hands!
During the season, we have additional needs and will post them on our site (see below), via our social media, and also via email blasts to the membership.
You may email adamspointbeach@gmail.com to let us know if you have ideas or skills that can help!
I don’t know how to help, but I want to be of assistance.
